West Bengal’s Annapurna Yojana has entered a crucial phase. The state government has begun a fresh round of ₹3,000 monthly transfers for verified beneficiaries, while a large number of applicants are still waiting for their names to be cleared or their applications to be reconsidered.
According to recent reports, 1.62 crore applications have been verified from around 1.8 crore submissions. The August payment process began for about 1.45 crore women, bringing immediate relief to families that depend on the assistance. But the gap between applications received, verified names and successful payments has also become the main question around the scheme.

What Is Annapurna Yojana?

Annapurna Yojana is West Bengal’s monthly cash-assistance programme for eligible women. It replaced the earlier Lakshmir Bhandar scheme and provides ₹3,000 per month through Direct Benefit Transfer to an Aadhaar-linked bank account.
The official scheme page says applicants must be women residents of West Bengal between 25 and 60 years of age. They should not be income-tax payers or hold permanent government employment with a regular salary or pension. New applications are subject to verification by local authorities before sanction.

Where Do Payments Stand Now?

The state began the latest payment cycle from 17 August for verified beneficiaries. The government has said the money will be credited district by district as applications complete the verification process.
For recipients whose transfer has arrived, the change is straightforward: the money is deposited directly into the linked bank account. For many others, however, the waiting period continues. Reports from different districts indicate that some applicants have not received a payment despite submitting their forms, while others say they have been excluded from the initial list.
“The real test of a large welfare scheme is not only how many payments go out, but how clearly pending and rejected cases are handled.”

Why Are Some Applicants Still Waiting?

The government has tied the scheme to a detailed verification process. Rural applications are examined through Block Development Offices, urban applications through Sub-Divisional Offices, and Kolkata applications through municipal authorities. The final sanction is issued at the district level or by the Kolkata Municipal Corporation in its area.
This process is intended to prevent duplicate, outdated or ineligible entries. At the same time, it has led to concern among applicants who were covered by the previous scheme but have not appeared in the new beneficiary list. The state has said that eligible women left out after verification will be able to seek review or reapply through the claim-and-objection mechanism announced this month.
WHAT APPLICANTS SHOULD DO NOW
Check application status only through authorised government channels. Keep your EPIC/Voter ID, Aadhaar and active mobile number ready. If your application was rejected or payment has not arrived, use the official claim, objection or reapplication process when available—do not pay agents or share bank details with unofficial websites.

Why This Matters

The scale of Annapurna Yojana makes its implementation significant. A transfer of ₹3,000 every month can support household expenses, education costs, healthcare needs and day-to-day financial independence for many women. The August disbursement figures show that the scheme has reached a very large group of beneficiaries within a short period.
But the current debate is equally about access. Clear communication on verification, payment delays and appeals will determine whether applicants see the new system as dependable. For now, the story of Annapurna Yojana is one of a major welfare rollout moving at scale alongside a large verification exercise that is still unfolding.
THE BOTTOM LINE
Verified beneficiaries are receiving the ₹3,000 monthly assistance, but applicants still awaiting approval should track only official updates and use the government’s review process rather than relying on social-media claims.
